Twilight Photography

2015-6472

Good morning,

For most photographers including myself, the best time to shoot is during the golden hours. You know, right around sunrise or sunset when the sky is full of magic.

However, twilight is another favorite time of mine. During this time the sky still has plenty of rich colors but there is no longer any direct light. You’ll be surprised how much color there really is in the sky during twilight since a camera’s sensor can pick up more light than we are able to see with our eyes (long exposures).

Here’s a good example of a twilight image of the Organic Mill here in Atglen. The trick to shooting good twilight images is being able to balance the ambient light (natural light) and artificial light coming from the buildings.

Appleseed Hollow the Studio

Good morning,

Here’s an artistic view of the studio at Appleseed Hollow, one of our tried-and-true locations for our workshops. Our Appleseed Hollow workshops are always held in the spring however it has no less of an appeal in the wintertime.

Rainy Day Sale

2015-7492

Good morning,

This image of the Amish Girls is from the rainy Gordonville Mud Sale that was held a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to capture the mood and show how the rain played a huge part in setting the feeling of this image.

Horse & Buggy

2015-6403

Good morning,

I seem to be running a little behind in my image processing and sharing. I’ve been pretty busy which I hear is a good thing (lol).

I just got back from a wildly successful workshop/lecture sponsored by Tamron at Precision Camera near Austin Texas. I love the people there and they are exactly what a teacher dreams about. They were very eager to learn, very appreciative with the information shared and all around great people.

As I mentioned I’m behind on my image sharing and this one is from a few weeks ago while Zach and I were out shooting barns at sunrise.

Glen Road Creek

2015-7361

Good morning,

This image almost slipped through the cracks. I wanted to share it before we got too far past the snowy season. While driving around during our last snow storm, I came upon a small creek and thought what a great scene with the falling snow. I positioned myself as close to the creek as I could and chose a low angle to have the creek use two thirds of the frame.

Fog is your Friend

Foggy Downtown Atglen

Good morning,

When people talk about atmospheric conditions, it provides photographers with an opportunity to capture everyday subjects in dramatic light and moody conditions.

Saturday night we noticed that it was really foggy outside, so we thought to ourselves, why not get out and make good use of that fog. So we scurried downtown with hopes of capturing the fog along with lit streetlamps and a twilight sky.

Needless to say I was extremely happy with the results 🙂

Blue Poppy Saga

2015-6458

Good morning,

Zach and I made a quick run over to Longwood this morning to finish up another Tech Tip, and let’s be honest who can visit Longwood and not shoot a few images 🙂

I thought maybe the Blue Poppies would be on the agenda until I realize that we spent too much time finalizing the video (20 minutes) and the line was down the hall (lol).  Oh well, I live close so I’ll make a run back over soon!

Best of Light,

Ed
